Until your appointment soak your sore toe in warm water for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times each day, and wear comfortable shoes or sandals that do not press on your toe.

Your doctor can treat an ingrown toenail by trimming or removing the ingrown portion of your nail to help relieve pain. Before this procedure, your doctor numbs your toe by injecting it with an anesthetic. JUST MAKE SURE HE/SHE KNOWS THAT YOU WANT TO FEEL AS LITTLE DICOMFORT AS POSSIBLE!

After Surgery it will take several weeks before the tissues are healed. You will probably wear a bandage or dressing for about a week following the procedure. Your surgeon may recommend soaking the toe in warm salt water each day for the first week after surgery. Your doctor may also recommend using topical or oral antibiotics for ingrown toenail treatment, especially if the toe is infected or at risk of becoming infected. Take pain medicine if your toe hurts. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including aspirin (such as Bayer), ibuprofen (such as Advil), or naproxen sodium (such as Aleve), might help your toe feel better.

For a recurrent ingrown toenail, your primary doctor or foot doctor may suggest removing a portion of your toenail along with the underlying tissue (nail bed) to prevent that part of your nail from growing back. This procedure can be done with a chemical, a laser or other methods.

Good luck. Remember it is not going to be as bad as you think it will be!IN grown toe nail ? hurts ..x ?
If your toe nail requires surgery you should be seeing a Podiatrist.

In the meantime keep the area clean and try to give it plenty of room in the shoe that you wear on that foot just to keep it comfortable.

I have performed many nail ablations under anaesthetic.

Sometimes the whole nail will be removed, but often it is only a partial removal. After the local your toe should be numb and you should feel slight pressure only as the nail is removed. You may have slight tenderness at the site for a few days.

You will be asked to return to the surgery about 3 days after treatment to check for any inflamation and a re-dressing, then again after about a week for another dressing.

The toe should be fully healed and free of pain by about 6 weeks after surgery

Cutting a V in the free edge of the nail does not work so don't bother with that idea.

See if you can be treated sooner at a Podiatric clinic instead of you local GP surgery.

Good luck, hope you can get quick treatment.
was it infected and they gave you meds for it? if they did next time they will proably cut the bed of the nail and they have to give you shots to help deaden it. it hurts that part really bad but when he doe sthe actually thing it does not. they won't just do corner. but you have to learn to take care of toes. you need to have this nail cut straight across and not curve by the sides or that will become ingrown some people have it worse then others. if you start getting one again you cut a V near the place where its starting to hurt. yes V small one not in the quick part and it will help relase some of the pain i know i have had this for years and not going to have nails removed.
mine was really bad %26amp; I had to get it surgically removed. the y won't rip the whole nail off unless it's like an inch deep which it's NOT. so, in my surgery they cut off the skin oon the side of my toe %26amp; burnt the root in the skin which made the nail grow in %26amp; cut it off. My toe was frozen from a needle during the whole procedure but mine was infected so it barely froze %26amp; it hurt like hell. get the surgery over with.
I had the same problem and had about three quarters of the toenail removed, in the surgery. I was fine after that, and I always cut my toenails straight across now, not trimming the corners, which caused the problem in the first place. A full toenail removal has to be done in hospital and I believe it is very painful, afterwards. I doubt that they will do that in your case.
If you cut a v in the middle of your toenail, by the time it grows back together it will pull the toenail out, for the future, so you don't have to go back to the Dr. because that hurts me, because they don't seem to have any mercy.
call them and ask. And if you get really scared remember that its for your health. Like when i was little i was afraid of shots, and my mom asked me ';Would you rather get a shot or die'; And guess what i said......SHOT!!! If i didnt take the shot i would have died! Well might have!
me too :(. they said all they can do it take it off, as cutting the corner will just make it grow back worse :S. but i dont want my toenail off, so im suffering with three of them :( (two big ones and one of the other ones)
they'll give you a shot.. or 2 or 3. Take some tylenol before and it wont be so bad. Then they'll take the ingrown part out and give you some medicine and tell you how to clean it as it heals.
soak it and then clip it but soak it in hot hot water and only clip it in the corner where it hurts or go to the doctor. good luck!!!!
Ouch

I had this problem too.

They will probably just cut the corner.

Also while your waiting for 3 weeks bathe your foot in hot salted water to clear any infection that may be in there.

I had one once what they do is cut in to the corner and then pull it out it hurts pretty bad but it feels better when its gone
well my brother had an ingrown toenail, he had to get about 8 shots in his toe, and then they cut into his foot and cut it off.
Soak your feet in Epsom salts and warm water to help relieve the pain. Your doctor may want to cut the nail out.
awww poor you doesnt sound nice at all but dont think you will feel any pain but they will take it off so it grows new coz you will get the same problem if they leave it on. hope all goes well xxxxxxxxx
If it's really bad, they might have to surgically cut it out. They won't rip the nail.
i put it in warm water to soften the skin around the nail then cut the corner =)
most likely rip it off
just the corner
that usually depends on what they think is best for it.
I think that they dig it out.
ymmy
Oww. idk.
ouch.
