dark? Not fully black but dark. It's only half the nail. It's on my big toe. It's only that one toe. It's been like that for a few months. I'm worried! Help! Why is my toe nail getting...?
It's most likely a fungus. I have one on my big toe, too. You'll probably notice when you clip your nail that the toenail and nail bed will be thick where the dark spot is.
First, go to a doctor, either a general practitioner, dermatologist or podiatrist to have it evaluated. If it is a fungus, they'll probably put you on a drug, likely Lamisil. Be warned that anti-fungal drugs have side effects - I think Lamisil can affect your liver, and they don't always guarantee that your fungus will be cured. Both are reasons I decided not to go the drug route.
I've been treating my toe fungus over the past few months, with gradual success, by using body-art quality henna, the same henna you use for hair, since henna is anti-fungal. I've used it on my skin for other fungus spots - yes, I shower every day, but I have pets that transmit icky stuff to me - and the spots cleared up. Every two weeks for about the past three months, I'll place henna mixture (henna plus water or juice) on my entire toe and I'll let it sit there for about an hour before I wash it off. The henna will stain the toenail and surrounding skin (if you didn't cover the skin with Vaseline, or something like that), but the stain on the skin will fade after a few days. (Same for if you get it your hands if you're not using gloves.) The stain on the toenail will stay, and will grow out eventually.
I've been staining my toenail for about three months, and the infected part has decreased by 50%. I'm going to continue the henna treatment for at least another 3 months, since fungus infections are stubborn, and it takes a while for the nail to grow out.
FYI, I bought my henna from this site: http://www.mehandi.com/shop/hairhenna.html
If you buy the smallest bag, 100g I think, it will last you a very, very long time if you use it on your toe only. Why is my toe nail getting...?
Is is dark as in discolored? If so, put vasseline on it a few times a day for two weeks and see if it is resolved. If not you could have a fungal infection. Have you been taking antibiotics? If so, they could have killed the good bacteria as well as the bad. We need the good bacteria to fight off fungus in out system. Pro-biotics and olive leaf extract and garlic for two months and stay away from sugar should kill the fungus.
Go see a doctor if you're worried...
You've probably just dropped something on it.
But I'm not a dr, so I wouldn't really know!
Just a guess.
