Wait till the dog is nice and relaxed. But if she won't let you do it, don't be forceful with her. It will just make the experience unpleasant for the both of you. When all else fails, a groomer doesn't charge that much to clip nails and vets will usually do it for free and they're professionals. When is the best time to cut my dog's toe nails?
You can try to cut them while she is asleep but she will wake up as soon as she realizes what you are doing. I would get someone else to help you hold her while you cut them. it is much easier with two people
When the nails click on the hard floor, it's time to clip them. I don't clip mine anymore because I cut her too far back(she has black nails, so it was hard to judge and she was very hyper), so I take her to the groomer. It costs only 5 bucks and I have piece of mind and she is really calm with them. If you get them cut or you cut them yourself, make sure you walk her afterwards to ';file'; them down on the concrete. Easier than trying to file them yourself. Also, if you cut too far down, and it bleeds, you can use flour, cornstarch, or baby powder to stop the bleeding if you don't have Quikstop or styptic powder.
Best to wait until she is tired. Hyper dog=jerking feet back=nipping the quick.

Here is a good website to show you how as well:

When she is relaxed, yes. And when they click on the ground, that means it is time to go to the pooch parlor ;-)

You might even want to take them to a professional dog groomer. They will do an awesome job.
First get decent clippers and remember they will bleed if you cut them too short. And yes wait until she is relaxed and mellow gently pick her up and hold the paw in your hand that you are going to cut be sure to do it gently!
The best time to do them is when she's feeling relaxed and a bit sleepy. Make sure you have some Quik Stop or some corn starch on hand in case you nick a nail. Even flour will work in a pinch. It's a piece of cake once you get used to doing it.
I've found the best time to trim my lab's nails is when she's fast asleep
while they r sleeping.
Dog groomer, if you cut to short you will hurt them and they can bleed, PetSmart charges only like 8.00 and you don't need an appointment well worth rather than taking a chance
well yes cut them when she is relaxed so if she is jumpy then she won't get hurt and to get her to let you keep on cutting is to give her a small treat after every hand that is wat i do so my dog will let me!
